DANE.ZONE x RED WALRUS Percussion Pack + CHIME Instrument

This Chime Instrument + Sample Pack is a collaboration between myself and producer Red Walrus. Red is the percussionist for Action Bronson's live band and a member of Harry Fraud's Surf School team. Red and I have made compositions that have been sampled into beats for artists such as Curren$y, 03 Greedo and French Montana. We recorded several different instruments at various bpms and layered things just like we would in regular creative session.

The Chime Instrument features Red’s beautiful 6 note bell instrument with the notes B, C#, E, F#, G# and a high B. I have pitched these samples across the keyboard for a more chromatic experience, as well as adding “+” versions that stretch the range of the instrument even further for expanded sound design possibilities. This instrument was recorded with Beyerdynamic M 201 TG microphones thru Neve 517 preamps to three different mediums, digital, 1/4” tape and cassette tape. I also recorded them “straight” (mono-ish) and with some stereo motion, by moving the chime around between the mics while recording for a very cool “swooshy” effect.

As you can see several of the loops were re processed through the Roland SP-555 and printed to either cassette or 1/4" reel to reel tape for a result ranging from light tape saturation to complete overdriven madness. Check out the process in the video below.
